Learn with CJAM
At CJAM, we believe that conflict resolution is a skill everyone can learn—and one that can make a powerful difference in our communities. Whether you're looking to become a trained mediator, strengthen your communication skills, or introduce restorative justice practices into your organization, we offer dynamic, hands-on learning experiences to help you grow. Our trainings and workshops are interactive, engaging, and designed to give you practical tools you can use in real-life situations.
Basic Mediation Training
Twice a year, CJAM offers our Basic Mediation Training, the first step for those interested in becoming a volunteer mediator with us. This 32-hour training provides a strong foundation in conflict resolution, giving participants the skills to navigate difficult conversations, facilitate constructive dialogue, and help people reach meaningful agreements.

Through a combination of large and small group discussions, demonstrations, and interactive exercises, participants will:
-
Develop active listening skills to foster effective communication
-
Learn techniques for managing and de-escalating conflicts
-
Explore restorative justice principles and their role in mediation
-
Gain hands-on practice in mediation and facilitation techniques
-
Understand how to address power imbalances for fair, equitable resolutions

By the end of this training, participants will have the foundational knowledge and skills to serve as community mediators and restorative justice practitioners, qualifying them to volunteer with CJAM. As a member of the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM), CJAM upholds nationally recognized quality standards, and our mediators adhere to Indiana’s Rule 7 of Alternative Dispute Resolution, ensuring ethical and effective mediation practices.
Custom Workshops & Facilitation
